As part of measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19, government has banned some activities that ordinarily characterised school life as final year students prepare for exams.
In his address to the nation Sunday, president Nana Akufo-Addo placed a ban on school assemblies, sporting events while highlighting directions to be followed by all institutions.
This comes as junior and senior high schools prepare to resume teaching and learning Monday, July 29, 2020.
With a fixed number of 30 students in a class, all study sessions must be within the reduced four hours, he said.
“There will be reduced school day with students reporting to school at 9 am and closing at 1 pm. No breaks outside the classrooms will be permitted. Assemblies and sporting events are banned,” he stated.
According to him, “the use by outsiders of school premises for religious and other activities will not be allowed”.
Meanwhile, the president assured schools of access to health facilities and adequate care by assigned nurses to the sick.
“They must all adhere strictly to enhanced personal hygiene and social distancing protocols, regularly wash their hands with soap and water, refrain from shaking hands and hugging and wear masks to protect themselves and others” the president advised the students.
Face masks, hand sanitizers, tissues and other sanitary materials which have been procured by government, will be distributed to all schools in the coming days, he added.
Final year students across the country were cleared by government to go back to school as they prepare to write their exit exams.
Students in their final year across all tertiary institutions returned to campus on June 15 ahead of their juniors in SHS.
