President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention when they experience any symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

Addressing the nation on measures taken to curb the spread of Covid-19 Sunday, he observed that some individuals are not taking the dangers the disease poses seriously.

As a result, he said they do not seek medical care when they start exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

“There should be no fear of stigmatisation or embarrassment with being diagnosed with Covid-19. So, please, when you begin to experience symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, bodily pains, loss of taste and smell, and difficulty in breathing, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility,” he appealed.

He further highlighted that when patients are promptly admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for management of Covid-19 they have higher chances of surviving.

Therefore, achieving the main objectives of winning the war against the Covid-19 pandemic, that is, to save lives, and reduce the number of deaths.

“The Ghana Health Service has observed that most of the patients that have been lost to the virus died either on arrival at the hospital or within 48 hours after arrival.”

Reiterating adherence to the safety measures, President Akufo-Addo encouraged citizens to always wear their facemasks, frequently wash their hands with soap under running water and practice social distancing at all times
