Relegation-threatened King Faisal are happy with the decision by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to cancel the country's top-flight league as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The GFA finally decided to cancel the league and other competitions for the 2019/20 season, having suspended them for more than three months due to government's ban on public gatherings.
The decision was announced on Tuesday following an Executive Council meeting which reportedly lasted for more than seven hours.
The GFA said all records associated with the season have been expunged with no demotion and promotion.
Before the league was suspended in March, King Faisal sat bottom, having accumulated just six points from 15 games and were tipped to be relegated at the end of the season.
Thus the news of the league's cancellation is best for the club, according to their Director, Nana Amankwah.
He also the lauded decision, claiming it is best to keep football fans safe from being infected with the virus that has claimed over 100 lives in Ghana.
"It’s good news for football fans and the players, not only King Faisal FC. We thank God, it will prevent us from getting the virus. We all wanted the best for our game,” Nana Amankwah, a director of King Faisal told OTEC FM.
“What happened to us which with the help of Covid-19 the league has been cancelled will never repeat again so we will prepare well before the next season start,” he added.
“Clubs should advise themselves and make sure they don’t go through what happened to us (King Faisal),” he concluded.
King Faisal were admitted into the league for this season after the number teams were increased from 16 to 18 on October 25 before the GFA presidential elections.
