Government says it will publish full details of how much it cost the taxpayer to fund the transition process.
The decision follows criticisms that the NDC-led transition engaged in profligate spending against the party’s own pledge to cut spending.
Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffour told Parliament on Wednesday that government blew up GH¢360,000 on the transition process with GH¢130,000 on refreshment alone.
Minority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has requested a full disclosure and breakdown of government’s expenditure on what he said was a month-long process.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Dan Botwe, in an interview with Joy News on Thursday said the amount spent on the process was unnecessary considering the caliber of personalities who formed the committee.
Meanwhile former Deputy Defence Minister, Dr Tony Aidoo, has rejected Mr Botwe’s assertion, claiming officials who sat on the committee received compensation commensurate with their work.
The transition which was headed by Mr P.V. Obeng ended its programme, according to government, two months after it was constituted.
Deputy Information Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa has also defended government’s expenditure claiming the monies were spent on coupons for journalists and other officials at the International Conference Centre where the team pitched camp.
