There is widespread condemnation of the visit by some functionaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to some voters' registration centres at some senior high schools in Kumasi where they interacted with students.

NPP's National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, and others are captured in viral social media pictures, engaging with students of Kumasi Anglican Senior High School.

The development has angered a section of Ghanaians and parents who cannot visit their wards in school as part of Covid-19 preventive measures.

Nana Boakye however insists he was in the school purposely to monitor the registration and only engaged students on adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM's morning show dubbed 'Kro Yi Mu Nsem' with Kofi Asante Ennin, he denied claims that he campaigned on the campus over the weekend.

"We went there with electoral commission's accreditation to monitor the ongoing registration exercise on campuses not purposefully to campaign," he said.

The further explained that "I just interacted with the students on the need to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols while they stay on campus, that really was the message I extended to the students."

Nana Boakye further justified his move citing examples that "colleagues from the NDC have been also monitoring the national exercise in some campuses so its nothing new."

Nana Boakye insists he never breached any protocol since political party representatives were allowed to monitor proceedings at various registration centers.

Meanwhile, Nhyira News' interactions with some residents of Kumasi revealed unanimous condemnation of the act.

They want clear restrictions on various campuses to ensure students are safe from the influx of politicians.
