A 90-year-old woman has been lynched after a traditional priest accused her of being a witch.
In a video sighted by Myjoyonline.com, the deceased, Akua Denteh was slapped, kicked and caned on Thursday at Kafaba near Salaga in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region
In an interview, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Enoch Adutwum Bediako said the son of the deceased, Mahama Salami reported the incident to them around 4 pm after his sister called him to tell him about the occurrence.
According to him, immediately after the matter was reported, the Salaga Police proceeded to the scene, which is about 21 kilometres from Salaga and saw the lifeless body of the victim.
DCOP Bediako said based on the severe beating the woman was subjected to by her assailants she became unconscious and died.
He added that an inspection conducted on the body revealed a cut on the forehead and bruises on the right arm.
The Regional Commander said after processing the scene as part of investigations, the body was sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) mortuary for preservation.
He stated that they are on the heels of those who perpetrated the heinous act to bring them to book.
