The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is resisting claims that it is massaging the coronavirus case count of the country to suit its interest.
Director of Health Promotion at the service Dr Aboagye Da Costa says GHS has done its best in managing the cases, therefore, there is no need for manipulations.
This comes after a former medical director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah, accused government and the health officials of massaging Covid-19 figures, alleging the caseload is over 40,000.
In a write-up, Dr Anabah, who is currently the executive director of the African Center for Health Policy Research and Analysis (ACH- PRA), said, “It would not be wrong for one to conclude that the apparent decline we see in the Covid-19 active cases is deliberately engineered by the state to cover up for its own mismanagement of the pandemic and avoid being blamed for allowing the voters' registration and reopening of schools to add more injuries to the pandemic."
Reacting to the allegation in an interview with the media, Dr Aboagye who is also lead for Risk Communication and Social Mobilisation for Covid-19 National Response team stated that, the Service has no interest in massaging figures as being claimed, insisting that the Covid-19 management team is committed to curbing the spread of the virus.
Dr Aboagye Da Costa who wondered the motive behind the claim added that the figures are factual, and active cases are gradually declining.
He further noted that the recoveries and low death rate are signs of good management and good interventions put in place adding that the system is run by technology therefore massaging figures will be very difficult.
Also, Dr Aboagye said the members of the Committee working on Covid-19 cases are all competent and responsible therefore will not massage figures so suit anyone's interest.
