The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against unnecessary propaganda in the Volta Region.
At a press briefing on Monday, the NPP Regional Chairman, Makafui Woanya said the voter’s registration exercise in the region has generally been peaceful and devoid of any harassment or intimidation by security personnel especially the military.
He, therefore, said claims that members of the NDC are being harassed cannot be true.
According to him, to the detriment of all Ghanaians, the NDC’s ‘ugly propaganda’ paints the image of government and security agencies as tribalistic and biased towards Voltarians.
“The question is why is the NDC determined to sacrifice the image of national security and its patriotism for the mobilisation of other nationals to participate in the nation's internal politics?”
Mr Woanya also noted that the NDC’s use of tribal and ethnic politics to achieve its purpose at all cost is dangerous and worrisome.
“It's their strategy for soliciting funds and undeserved sympathy, whipping up tribal sentiments and emotions of Voltarians during registration periods and voting has been an old truck and stock in trade of the NDC,"Mr Woanya alleged
Mr Woanya advised the NDC to focus their efforts on their campaign instead of propagating falsehood.
He added that “the people of the Volta Region are not yours [NDC] they are for the state.”
