The Finance Ministry says its relationship with American company KRL International LLC is transparent and consistent with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act.
The Ministry in a press release Thursday said, it signed its first agreement with the company "on June 28, 2017, for consultancy services in support of its work in the United States and other international community in the area of strategic communications, investment promotion and government relations."
The Ministry's statement follows KRL International LLC denying claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had used funds from the public purse to support its political activities.
KRL's comment comes on the heel of a recent article anonymously published on the Open Source Investigations (OSI) website which alleged that President Akufo-Addo had paid KRL International for their service in his campaign using public funds.
KRL International describes itself as “a boutique consulting firm providing comprehensive, custom-fit services to bridge the divide between Washinton D.C and the world’s emerging markets”.
It was founded by International Consultant K. Riva Levinson in 2007.
On its website krlinternational.com, it lists “Unseating the incumbent in Ghana’s presidential election” as one of its case studies.
The firm claims it was hired by the campaign team of Ghana’s current President, Nana Akufo-Addo as a communications and public consultant in the run-up to the 2016 election.
But the Finance Ministry refutes claims that public funds was used to pay for a job the consultancy firm did for the governing NPP.
It said, "the article is a clear misrepresentation of the facts as it relates to the Ministry of Finance's contractual relationship with, and fee payments to KRL International LLC. The Finance Ministry's relationship with KRL is transparent and consistent with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act.
