Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Daniel Asare is set to end his tenure on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
This was revealed in a press release signed by the Acting Board Chairman of the institution, Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
The announcement follows months of agitation by some workers of the hospital over the capacity of Dr Asare to run the affairs of the facility when he is due for retirement.
In May this year, the workers, mostly senior staff had among other things, circulated protest posters at the facility, asking the CEO to go.
They argued that “Article 199 (1) states that: A public officer shall, except as otherwise provided in this Constitution, retire from the public service on attaining the age of sixty years".
Dr Asare's appointment followed the exit of Dr Felix Anyaa who was relieved of his post in June 2018 by President Akufo-Addo.
With some 27 years of experience in health service with 17 of these in hospital management, the current CEO before moving to Accra was the CEO of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
While wishing him “the warmest regards and appreciation” for his service to the institution, the press release also named Dr. Ali Samba who is the Director of Medical Affairs as the one to take over until a substantive appointment is made by the President.
“All are entreated to offer him the necessary support to enable him drive the hospital’s agenda of providing excellent healthcare”, part of the release urged the staff and the general public.
