President John Mahama has commissioned the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which he described as another important milestone to build a health care system that is equitable, resilient, and responsive to the changing health needs of Ghanaians.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, July 9, President Mahama said the facility forms part of a wider national strategy to strengthen specialist healthcare delivery and ensure that quality treatment is not limited by a person’s location.
The President also announced the establishment of the Ghana Medical Equipment Services Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, to oversee the management, maintenance, and efficient use of medical equipment in major hospitals across the country.
