The Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Ketu South, Mr David Tiahno Quarshie, has inaugurated two farm tractor services to help subsidize the cost of farming in the Municipality.
The tractor service under the 'Ketu South Shall Prosper Initiative' is aimed at improving productivity would work for farmers in the Municipality at a 50 per cent subsidy.
Mr Quarshie speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate a Committee for the tractor service said the gesture was his social responsibility and contribution to the growth of farming in the area.
He said being a farmer himself gives him an appreciation of the problems farmers faced and hoped to do more to reduce their burden, as he had done on the past by providing seedlings to farmers in the Municipality.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr William Ayiteyvi underscored the importance of a tractor service to farmers and thanked Mr Quarshie for the gesture.
The support is expected to motivate a lot more people to move from subsistence to commercial farming, as well as help those who might have been forced out of farming due to the high costs involved to get back into farming.
Torgbui Fianu II expressed gratitude to him for granting their request for a tractor service in the Municipality and prayed for his success in his bid to represent the people of Ketu South in Parliament to help address other needs in some communities such as water and electricity.
The chairman of the 5-member tractor service committee, Mr Amewuga Datsomor, assured the service of the group to all farmers in need of their service without discrimination.
Madam Sefenya Afaglo, a farmer, was hopeful of being able to farm on a much bigger land at a reduced cost and reap more profits.
Madam Rose Ahede, also a farmer, described the farm tractor service in the area as a great intervention as they will now pay half the cost of what they used to pay to hire the services of a tractor.
