It came late but undeniably, the biggest news of the week, if not the month. Secessionist groups blocked some major roads at the exit points of the Volta Region as they attempted to what they called separation of the Volta, Oti and parts of the Eastern Regions from Ghana.
Hundreds of commuters were left stranded.
The persons believed to be members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) even engaged the police in a shootout, injuring two officers in the process.
But when the country’s security agencies got to work, it was a scene to behold. They got everyone involved to escape or surrender but 31 members of the group were arrested.
One of them died following an exchange of gunfire with police. The group had also attempted to take over the Kpong Hydroelectric dam.
The Volta Caucus in Parliament had questions for the National Security Minister.
Another thing that grabbed the nation’s attention was the strike by nurses, midwives and their allied professionals. Many patients were left stranded at the hospitals too.
The nurses were forced into compulsory arbitration, which meant they had to end the strike somehow and return to work….but with these words to their employers.
This week, the controversy over the new voters register was heavily at play when they realised their names were missing from the roll.
NDC flagbearer John Mahama and his running mate suspended their campaigns to address those concerns.
The EC says the allegations are untrue. The NDC says well, regardless of your status on the electoral roll, everyone will vote.
Joy FM's battleground was in Ledzokuku where some residents were unhappy about infrastructural developments. Others were hopeful the MP would be retained for all he’s done for the community.
MP for the area assured that concerns of the people would addressed.
Speaking of politicians, this week also saw the news of an alleged fight between presidential staffer Charles Bissue and Tarkwa-Nsuem MP George Mireku Duker.
Photographs later hit the internet depicting the former with his face swollen. The trending images also show Mr Bissue with a bloodied eye which is forced open for examination.
The Media Foundation for West Africa was not happy with the National Communications Authority over the closure of some radio stations
Scores of farmers in the North East, Northern and Upper East regions whose farms have been submerged following the spillage of the Bagre Dam and heavy rainfall made an appeal to government to support them.
As The Multimedia Group celebrates 25 years, JoyNews continues to tell you the impact of the company on the nation.
