Veteran media personality Oheneyere Gifty Anti has declared her commitment to the Zero Malaria Starts With We campaign at a media launch in Accra.
The event which was organised by the African Media and Media Research Network [AMMEREN], National Malaria Control Program [NMCP] and Speak Up Africa is aimed at using the media as a tool to help eradicate malaria in Ghana and Africa as a whole.
Oheneyere Gifty Anti who was the moderator of the program noted that journalist have bigger platforms and the opportunity to engage the public on the need to eliminate malaria by educating the residents through their various mediums of broadcast.
She challenged journalists to take up the responsibility of making sure their colleagues join the fight against malaria by doing more feature news stories on the dangers of malaria and its related issues.

Oheneyere Gifty Anti noted that journalists have a power light to inform, lead and educate and direct the public and to make sure that children under five years do not die of malaria.

The First Lady, H.E. Rebecca Akufo Addo, officially launched the campaign 25th April, 2019 to mark World Malaria Day making the country the 7th African nation to formally declare ‘Zero Malaria Starts With Me’.
Although Ghana has made progress against malaria in recent years, it is still a highly burden country in which the entire population is at risk of a renewed cases. However, sustained mobilization at all levels of society is needed to make further progress.
The National Malaria Control Programme and Speak Up Africa, a strategic communications and advocacy organization, are collaborating on the implementation of this campaign in Ghana.
The campaign will consist of the following 3 key elements: driving political will, private sector engagement and media engagement.
