President Nana Akufo-Addo has revealed that the newly commissioned Kumasi Integrated Compost and Recycling Plant (KCARP) in the Adagya will provide over 800 direct and indirect jobs to residents of the Ashanti Region.
Commissioning the facility on Monday as part of his 2-day tour in the region, President Akufo-Addo noted that the establishment of the plant will help bridge the unemployment gap in the region, particularly, amongst the youth.
He highlighted that KCARP - the largest waste management plant ever constructed in the country - will drastically reduce the sanitation challenges in the country.
“This facility, is a state-of-the-art waste management facility, with the capacity to process some 1,200 metric tonnes of solid waste per day. The facility has also the capacity to process 1,000 cubic metres of liquid waste per day,” he said.
The newly commissioned compost and recycling plant is part of Zoomlion Ghana Limited's Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP), a waste processing and recycling facility established by the Jospong Group of Companies to receive, sort, process and recycle waste.
In view of that, the President commended Jospong Ghana Limited and its partners for their entrepreneurial initiatives which are touching and impacting lives.
“I take this opportunity to express the appreciation of the Ghanaian nation to the nation of Hungary for her financial assistance which has made the creation of this facility possible. It is a manifestation of the increasingly strong bond of collaboration and cooperation that exists between Hungary and Ghana.”
The President also reiterated his pledge to readily collaborate with the private sector to provide the needed sanitation infrastructural and to manage solid waste.
“This project is yet again another manifestation of the PPPs (Private-Public Partnerships) made by government to encourage private sector participation in the provision of critical infrastructure, in this case, the management of solid waste and improvement of sanitation in the credibility.”
