Speaking at the event, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye referred to the launching ceremony as a historic one as the occasion was organized by leveraging on technology through the use of social media platforms.
“The significance of this year’s launch, among others is that the advancement in technology is impacting agriculture positively and other sectors.
"A public health pandemic such as the COVID-19 would certainly have caused the programme to be cancelled, but thanks to technology, the Farmers’ Day will take place,” she said.
She further lauded President Akufo-Addo for envisioning the agricultural sector as the major driving force of Ghana’s development agenda and putting policies in place to achieve that.
Mrs Quaye indicated that her outfit is excited because their livelihoods are safe due to government’s support.
“The challenges and opportunities presented by the onset of the covid-19 pandemic reinforces government’s priority placed on the agriculture sector.
For us in agriculture sector including fisheries, we are very excited because we are assured that our farmers and fishers can continue to go about their means of livelihood with the support of government and its partners even in times of emergencies,” she said.
