Mr Akwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, the independent presidential candidate in the 2008 Election, has called for a halt to the finger-pointing that is going on between the two large political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patri­otic Party (NPP).He said finger-pointing would not solve the problems facing the people. "It is only concerted and concentrat­ed effort that will solve the problems confronting the nation."Mr Amoafo-Yeboah told the Daily Graphic Thursday that now that elections were over, serving the interest of the nation in truth and honesty must be the hall­mark of every politician and political party."The public is crying because fuel prices are up Ghanaians want to know why our President during his campaign promised to lower fuel prices only to turn around and raise them," he pontificated.Regrettably, he said that answering these questions and concerns had rather turned up the intensity of the blame game by both the NDC and NPP, rendering Ghana so divided that objectivity was now an illicit commodity. "We have adopted the failed, doctrine of "you are with us or you are against us," he said, adding that "it is no longer accept­able to be independent, as either side will seek to define you with a brand, depending on the position one takes." This trend, in his view, would not augur well for national peace, progress and growth and expressed the hope that politicians would work to reconcile the nation, create jobs for the jobless and introduce social inter­ventions that would help alleviate the suffering of the masses.Source: Daily Graphic.
