The flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has pledged to extend the free education to crèches should he win the December polls.
Speaking on the Joy News’ Election Brief Wednesday, the Pastor cum politician explained that basic education is the most crucial learning stage of an individual’s life, however, due to the harsh living conditions of the country, most children miss out on pre-school and start their education from kindergarten.
This, he argued, will be rectified under his governance should the electorates give him the mandate to be at the helm of the State's affairs.
“When the child is born, the child is for the country, and not for only his or her parents. So we want to give all children equal rights to all systems the nation can provide.
“This is because sometimes, the child can be a very good asset to the nation but because nobody cares for the child because the child belongs to a poor family the nation doesn’t benefit from the human resource the child could provide. So we need to care for our children so that we can fully benefit from them,” he said.
During the interview, Osofo Kyiri Abosom commended the Free SHS policy introduced by President Akufo-Addo, however, he believes that the execution of the policy using the double-track system needs to be looked at again.
According to him, “the money that parents are spending during the three months whilst their wards are home is more than the fees that they were paying.”
He, therefore, suggested the double-track system be scrapped, adding that Ghana under his administration as President of the nation, Ghanaians will witness a modified implementation of the Free SHS policy.
