The Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh has visited the Bono East Region to access the operational readiness of the region's security forces towards the 2020 General Elections.
Speaking to the chiefs and traditional authorities in the Techiman Traditional Council, Mr Oppong-Boanuh admonished the chiefs to ensure that the youth in the communities are not used to foster violence in the upcoming elections.
"Acknowledging the fact that when the Chiefs in the region speak, the youth in communities pay heed, I have one plea for the Chiefs.
"I implore the traditional authorities to admonish the youth not to engage in acts of violence in the December polls," he said.
The IGP relayed that consistent development in the region would be impeded if acts of violence are allowed to go unchecked in the region. He threw a word of caution to the Chiefs not to tolerate any act of violence.
"The 2020 General Election is not a war zone or a battlefield. If for whatsoever reason you do not agree with the views of a contender, there is no need to resort to violence," he added.
Mr Oppong-Boanuh called on the traditional authorities to be ambassadors of peace in the build-up to the December polls, and urged the chiefs to ensure that matters of dispute are resolved peacefully.
"For instance, if there is any form of disagreement, speak to the traditional authorities to help settle the issue amicably," he said.
