Parliamentary Candidate for the Ododiodoo Constituency on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Nii Lante Bannerman has called for the arrest of persons who perpetuated violence in the Constituency over the weekend.
He said this will serve as a deterrent to other persons with similar intentions.
"I take this opportunity to condemn in no uncertain terms the unwarranted attacks on our members and other innocent citizens of the Constituency. I hereby call on the police to
Ododiodoo has been identified as one of the leading hotspots of violence in the country ahead of the December polls with 50 flashpoints.
There have been several instances of electoral related violence in the Constituency, with the latest (before Sunday's clash) being an attack on MP for the Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuje.
The MP was attacked in front of the James Town Police station by persons he said were members of the New Patriotic Party.
A peace walk by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) also turned violent in Jamestown on Sunday morning.
Both parties are pointing accusing fingers at each over the clash.
The NPP Parliamentary Candidate Nii Lante Bannerman who believes the MP for the Constituency Nii Lante Vanderpuye masterminded the clash, called on the police to speed up investigations into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
“We will be left with no other option than to defend and protect ourselves. I am saying that if the security agencies do not take up this case, we will be forced to protect and defend ourselves because we will not sit for them to attack us.
"If it continues, we’ll have to defend and protect ourselves. In any nature that the attack will come, we will defend and protect ourselves,” he said.
He, however, has urged his party supporters to remain calm even in the face of severe provocations by the opponents.
"I also call on the Ga Traditional Council and all well meaning Ghanaians to call the MP to order before things get out of hand," he added.
