The NDC flagbearer John Mahama says he prefers to not get celebrities involved in his campaign ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Starr FM, he explained that people from other parties develop some hatred towards celebrities when they make their political positions clear.
He added that the support could lead to the “destruction” of the celebrity’s career.
“I don’t want to affect their careers,” he said.
“People will misinterpret their support and think because they are supporting you I won’t buy their music or watch their movies. That shouldn’t be the case but unfortunately, that is what happens,” he stated.
John Mahama said in his bid to ensure no celebrity is involved in his campaign nor does their career get caught in the political heat he prefers to keep their involvement to the barest minimum.
His comments come after some celebrities made their position clear on which presidential candidate they are supporting ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Samini, Sarkodie, Prince David Osei and Empress Gifty are all supporting the NPP’s bid for a second term in office.
However, John Mahama said his attitude towards any celebrity will not change whether they support his party or not.
He explained that everyone has a reason for supporting a leader and he cannot fault them for it.
