The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has denied reports that he plans to incite violence with a video clip that went viral on social media.
Mr Dumelo was captured in a video pointing out that his party is wide awake and will deal with anyone engaging in acts contradictory to the electoral process.
But the actor subsequently apologised.
“Upon reflection, I realised that I shouldn’t have made that statement, so I apologised,” he said.
In a one-on-one interaction with Daniel Dadzie on Prime Morning, the aspiring MP clarified that he only sought to encourage vigilance.
“It wasn’t about encouraging violence, what I sort or wanted to say was let’s be vigilant at the polling stations, so I think I just went a step further to make some comments, and of course I apologise,” he explained.
He added, “I realised after, that it sort of meant okay, am asking my people to do this, which is not right because am a peaceful person and we need peace in this country”.
“When politicians make such comments, it is only right to come back and say you know what I shouldn’t have made this comment,” he noted.
The aspiring MP recommended, “let us trust the security agencies who will be there to ensure that we have a peaceful and fair election”.
