President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to maintain the peace the nation has enjoyed since the inception of the Fourth Republic.
Addressing the nation ahead of the 2020 polls, President Akufo-Addo was optimistic that the citizenry will desist from activities that will cause any disruption to the electoral process of the country.
He added that with current occurrences on the African continent, the world is looking up to us to maintain the status as a beacon of democracy, peace, and stability.
"In this 4th Republic, we have had the longest, uninterrupted period of stable, constitutional governance in our history, banishing the spectre of instability that disfigured the early years of our nation’s existence, and the benefits are showing.
"Together, let us continue to lay the platform for the evolution of a new Ghanaian civilisation, which will give true meaning to the foundational values of freedom and justice on which our nation was conceived by its far-sighted, visionary founders," he stated on Sunday.
He then added, "we can do it. So, let us be up and doing, for our destiny beckons."
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the President urged electorates to observe all the safety protocols to stem the spread of the disease.
He indicated that the citizenry must not lose sight of the danger posed by the disease cautioning that electorates should "vote safely."
