Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, is questioning the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) claims to have won the just ended Presidential election.
This comes in response to the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu's statement in an address, upon Parliament’s resumption on Monday, indicating the NDC’s resolve to reject the election results as declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr. Iddrisu and the NDC allege that the Commission made unpardonable errors during the collation process.
“There are still contested outcomes in some constituencies across the country; in Sene. What we expect is that justice is done...we in the NDC still have some dark clouds against what has been declared by the Chairperson of the EC,” the Minority Leader observed.
However, Mr. Bonsu maintained in his reply that there is no basis for the rejection, especially because the opposition party does not possess the pink sheets, to back their claims, from the various polling centres in contention.
"People that really want to stand on the foundation of truth should be equipped with the evidence of truthfulness before they make proclamations because, without the pink sheets, they cannot make any allegation,” he emphasized.
Background
Following the EC's declaration on Wednesday, December 9, the NDC announced its decision not to accept the results of the 2020 presidential elections.
From the Commission’s collated results, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,413 votes, representing 51.59% of the total valid ballots cast.
The NDC's John Mahama was announced to have polled 6,214,889 votes, securing him 47.36% of the total valid ballots cast.
According to the political party however, there is “overwhelming” evidence that proves that the party’s candidate and former President, John Dramani Mahama, had won the election.
The NDC believes there were several measures to rob the party off both their presidential and parliamentary victory.
