A former Clerk to Parliament, Samuel Ntim Darkwa has entreated the House to apologise to Ghanaians for their unruly conduct on the dawn of the 8th Parliament.
According to him, their conduct on the dawn of January 7, was shameful and unbecoming of the Parliament of Ghana.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile Saturday, Samuel Ntim Darkwa said, “Parliament should formally apologise to the people of Ghana for the misconduct. In fact the act must be described as primitive and barbaric.”

On January 7, Ghanaians watched in dismay for hours as elected MPs displayed behaviours widely condemned as infantile and indecent during the election of the House’s Speaker.
After the initial shock over the NDC MPs occupying the majority side of Parliament, the House again was thrown into disarray when the legitimacy of the Assin North MP-elect, James Gyakye Quayson was questioned.
The appearance of an armed military team in the chamber and the decision by the Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah to snatch some ballot papers led to punches being thrown, and insults hurled at each other.
The former Clerk, Samuel Ntim Darkwa says such acts have brought the House to disrepute, thus a formal apology from the leadership of the House will be in the right direction for Parliament to regain its muddied esteem.
Meanwhile, some MPs who had partaken in the scuffle have been apologizing for their actions.
Amongst them being Yapei Kusawgu MP constituency, John Abdulai Jinapor who in an interview with JoyNews said although he might have gone overboard, his actions were to protect the constitution of the country which promotes secret ballot.
“Some have maintained that we [NDC] stood our grounds to protect the constitution, some have also insisted that we went too high but if anybody feels unhappy, disturbed by what happened, I apologise to them,” he said.
