Hotel industry records high patronage on ‘Val’s Day’ despite coronavirus restrictions
The hotel industry in Ghana recorded high patronage during this year’s ‘Valentine’s Day celebration’ which saw various groups of people showcasing their love for their partners at major hotels in the capital city of Accra.
According to the Executive Assistant Manager of Labadi Beach Hotel, David Eduaful, business activities picked up during the Valentine’s Day.
“Valentine Day at the Labadi Beach Hotel was very busy and we had very good patronage for our food and beverage outlet and of course, we run a promo for rooms and we got couples booking to enjoy the valentine. So all in all, we had a good business valentine day celebration,” he noted.
The hospitality industry has been the arguably the hardest hit by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, the Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) called for the reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) charge of 3% flat rate of the 12.5% imposed on members.
The association said such a measure will help cushion them in the face of the financial hardship imposed on their businesses since the outbreak of Covid-19 last year.
Due to the pandemic, hotels in Ghana have lost patronage significantly because of the restrictions of movements and social activities.
