A group in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region is calling on President Akufo-Addo, to maintain the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in his second term.
The group, named “Operation No Change,” says Martin Obeng distinguished himself well in the first term of the New Patriotic Party as the MCE and is fit to continue representing the President in the municipality.
In a press statement, the group says Obeng is caring and relates well with everyone irrespective of one’s political affiliation, which they said, manifested in the NPP’s performance in the 2020 general elections.
According to the group, any attempt to change him will not merit the true will of the Chiefs and the general citizenry of Sunyani West.
They said, if for some reason the President can not maintain him as the MCE, then he should elevate him to a new and higher position in his new government.
The group’s highlighted points to support their call include Martin Obeng’s exceptional performance, which they say has been emphasized many times by the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West and Minister-designate for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
“His role to ensure total growth at all levels of infrastructure and human development, ability to foster stability, unity and total cohesion among Nananom (Chiefs), the security services and the general populace, inline with his duties as the chief executive officer, is well appreciated”, they said.
The “Operation No Change” group says Martin Obeng, who was also the dean of the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Bono Region, also implemented some policies and interventions such as police barriers and patrol teams which helped to drastically reduce the crime rate and other social mayhems within the municipality.
“He also ensured the district police station which was started by the previous NDC government was commissioned and a new accommodation for staff added”, they noted, adding that a new municipal administration block for the assembly is near completion.
“We believe he is more than capable, competent and a perfect human resource to represent the President in any capacity, and we join hands and voices to humbly call on the Nana Akufo-Addo to maintain Martin Obeng as MCE or elevate him to a new position”, the statement signed by the Daniel Gyabaah, said.
