The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has criticised the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He accused it of mismanaging the country’s economy and contributing to the current cocoa sector challenges.
Speaking during a visit to New Oboase in the Denkyira West District, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said he was in the community on behalf of the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama to express gratitude to residents for their support during the recent campaign period.
“I am here today on behalf of the party and President John Dramani Mahama to thank you all for your support during the campaign period,” he said.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia alleged that the country had suffered significant setbacks over the past eight years under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to him, poor economic management and policy decisions had worsened living conditions for Ghanaians.
“For the past eight years, the previous government, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, did not help the country at all; everything was mismanaged,” he said.
He further accused the former Finance Minister of failing to return to the country to account for his stewardship, particularly in relation to the ongoing cocoa crisis affecting farmers and the broader agricultural sector.
The NDC Chairman linked the current cocoa challenges to what he described as financial mismanagement and a lack of accountability during the previous administration.
At the event, the Nifahene of New Oboase, Nana Kofi Arkoh, lauded Mr. Asiedu Nketia for what he described as a show of humility and gratitude in returning to thank the community after the campaign period.
Nana Kofi Arkoh expressed appreciation to the government for ongoing development projects in the area, noting that some initiatives had brought relief and renewed hope to residents.
However, he appealed for additional support to address pressing needs within the community.
He emphasised the importance of sustained government intervention in infrastructure, agriculture, and social services to improve living standards in New Oboase and surrounding communities.
The visit forms part of the 'Thank You Tour’ engagement with grassroots supporters across the country.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia reiterated the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, promising that the NDC would prioritise responsible economic management and policies aimed at revitalising key sectors, including cocoa production.
