Upper West Regional Chairman of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Clement Eledi has expressed concern over the low number of magistrates in the region.
He noted that the region can only boast of two magistrates which he described as inadequate for a region with 11 administrative districts and municipalities.
"A judge is yet to have a permanent place of residence. These are a few of the challenges that we go through.
"A lot of the district are yet to get a district magistrate, we have only two circuit court Judges in the region."
Mr Clement Eledi made the statement at the opening of a new chamber for the Sory@Law firm in the Upper West Region.
According to him, the dire situation has left some legal practitioners threatening to leave if the situation at hand is not resolved.
He added, "I don’t blame him because, in every profession, you want to grow, if they send you to a place where you can grow, it is problematic."
Mr Eledi warned that should the situation be allowed to continue, it will impede on justice delivery in the region.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Wa circuit court judge, Justice Baah Forson Adjapong indicated that the district needs more Lawyers in handling issues.
"We judges too we always want lawyers to appear before us and that sharpens our law because you have to also read around before you come and sit because you are going to face lawyers."
Taking his turn, Lawyer Thadeus Sory revealed that the initiative to build a new chamber in the Upper West region is to offer the people the best of services.
"We have decided that the people who belong here and from where we come are also deserving of the best of services.
"And for which reason, if we are given our best elsewhere the people of this place must also be given the best of our services because this is where we come from," he said.
Upper West Regional Minister-designate, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, was also present at the new office.
Two of the region’s finest musicians, Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Samini and Afro Pop singer Noella Wiyaala were there to support the initiative.
