Minister-designate for Ahafo Region, George Boakye has dismissed claims of ever calling out names of suspects who were behind an attack against him in 2016.

However, citing the headlines of some articles, MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated to the Appointments Committee Monday, that the Minister-designate had pointed fingers at MP for Asunafo South Constituency, Eric Opoku.

He said: "Anyone who does a quick research about the political activities in Asunafo South, it will appear that it is a war zone. Some reports include ‘We did not clash with NDC, they attacked us’ on September 19, 2016.

‘Asunafo South carries out retaliation attacks’ on March 8, 2017. ‘Minister accused of assassination plot’ - that is you accusing Eric Opoku dated March 4, 2018. April 4, ‘Former MCE responsible for my attack’ - and this time it is from Eric Opoku accusing you, so it is back and forth."

Also, the Tamale North MP, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini said George Boakye had hinted of a reprisal attack on AdomFM's Ekosisen programme.

"This was after you claimed that NDC thugs had attacked your home and destroyed some vehicles. Then in 2018, the house of Eric Opoku was attacked," he stated.

In response to the issue, Mr Boakye said he has never made mention of reprisal attacks and alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was to blame.

"I don’t remember saying anything about reprisal attacks. I have never spoken to anyone about reprisal attacks. I did not make mention of anybody's name as having plotted my attack. I did not do that. Then maybe, it might be misreporting.

"I have never said it anywhere. I don’t think Honourable Eric Opoku will order people to come and attack me, neither will he also think that I will order people to attack him. I don’t think I'll ever say that," he said.

Mr George Boakye admitted that he and have Eric Opoku have decided to work together and supporters of both the NDC and NPP have smoked the peace pipe.

"If you look at 2020, there was no incident in Sankore and I also said yesterday is gone. If we were children yesterday, now we are adults.

"I don't think there will be anything like that. Now as the Regional Minister, when he comes to the constituency, it is my duty to do that and will protect him," he added.

According to the Minister-designate, both he and Eric Opoku will work together in the interest of the Ahafo Region and Sankore.
