The National Investment Bank Ghana Limited (NIB) has acknowledged the tremendous contributions of women in various sectors - formal and informal - of the Ghanaian economy.
In the corporate and business sectors such as banking, the invaluable role of women in leadership and its impact on the positive transformations witnessed within the sector and its ripple effect on the national development over the past few years cannot be overlooked.
NIB is therefore celebrating eight dynamic female leaders within the company ahead of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, which falls on Sunday, March 8.
In line with this year’s theme of International Woman’s Day: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, the bank is recognising the strides made by each of these women and the various contributions they have made to the organisation in their roles from the break of the pandemic to date.
These women are Ama B. Ghartey, General Manager, Treasury and Investment; Angela Okae, Head, Human Resource Department; Bernadette Addo-Dankwa, Head, SME; Mary Owusu-Brefo, Head, Customer Services; Joycelyn Ashidam, Ag. Board Secretary; Gloria Adotey, Project Management Officer; Mrs Grace F. Adu-Okyere, Head, E-Banking and Marian Touré, Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications.
Toure fills her role as the bank’s first female to occupy the newly created department tasked with improving the bank’s brand equity.
Highlighting the importance of the theme in the bank’s operations and management’s support of gender equality and women’s empowerment, Managing Director of NIB, Mr Samuel Sarpong, said, “we recognise the contributions of these professional staff to the transformation of the bank despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 to our operations.
They have excelled in their various roles and we celebrate their achievements. NIB is committed to creating an organisation that provides opportunity for all our staff to excel.”
On his part, the Deputy Managing Director, Twenboah Kodua Fokuo, applauded the women for their “unflinching strife for excellence.”
He added “the NIB is poised to support every woman in the bank who exhibits the requisite leadership qualities, to enable them take up leadership positions in the bank."
He also took the opportunity on his own behalf and on behalf of the Management and Board, to wish the women of NIB and by extension all the bank’s female customers and stakeholders a very special International Women’s Day 2021.
March 8 has been set aside as a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge.
In support of the celebration and the theme, we challenge you to strike the pose by raising your hand high with us to show you're in and that you commit to choosing to challenge and call out inequality.
