MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has challenged President Akufo-Addo to demonstrate his commitment to the fight against corruption by reinstating former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews after the President's State of the Nation Address, the legislator observed that a large section of Ghanaians believed that Mr Domelevo was doing a good job in fighting corruption.
As such, for President Akufo-Addo to walk his talk about protecting the public purse and fighting corruption in the country, the former Auditor-General who was forced to retire, must be reinstalled.
"We must protect the public purse, we must do things that will protect the interest of Ghanaians and make sure that we do not make them poorer and that is what he [the President] himself said. So as a commitment the president must reinstate the former Auditor-General.
"This is for good reason because the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians believed that this man was doing a good job and that is the truth. The president can do his own survey," he told JoyNews' Kwesi Parker Wilson.
He continued, "An overwhelming majority of Ghanaians also know that the reason this man is in trouble is that he stood up to one of the very powerful appointees of the Akufo-Addo government."
Mr Buah further stated that in the spirit of doing what Ghanaians are asking for, the President must do what is right and restore Mr Domelevo to his former post.
"We must do everything to make sure that we protect people in positions who are speaking truth to power," he said.
The former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo was in a letter signed by President Akufo-Addo’s Secretary was asked to proceed on retirement based on an indication by the Audit Service Board that Mr Domelevo has exceeded the eligible age to remain in the workforce.
The decision was met with mixed reactions as a section of the citizenry was of the view that it derails the much-touted commitment to eradicate corruption.
