The North East Region has recorded a surge in Covid-19 cases as it confirms additional 188 cases of the virus with seven deaths in the last two months.
This is a significant increase in the number of infections compared to last year when the region only recorded 22 cases in the course of eight months from April when it recorded the first case of the virus.
The Regional Health Director, Dr Abdulai Abubakari, who revealed the worrisome development at a review meeting in the regional capital, Nalerigu, added that the region's cumulative number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 210.
Dr Abdulai at the opening ceremony of the 2020 annual health sector performance review meeting, also indicated that Malaria, respiratory tract infection, diarrhoea diseases and rheumatism were still the top five causes of OPD attendance in the region.
