President Akufo-Addo has called on the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to collaborate with the Ministries of National Security, Interior, and Foreign Affairs to build their capacity to fight exterior threats.
He also asked the Army to liaise with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to support them to ensure that the country has a robust security framework capable of deterring external aggressors.
While commending the Army for its role in the 2020 election, the President said emerging threats to the nation requires a well-equipped military force to handle any unforeseen situation.
“I commend the Armed Forces for your continued commitment to the ongoing operation; ‘Conquered Fist and Motherland’ intended to create a secure peaceful atmosphere in the North Western, Northern and North Eastern borders of the country and also to contain so-called secessionist along our Eastern frontiers.
“I urge you, to continue to collaborate with the National Security, Interior, Foreign Affairs Ministries and the Ghana Revenue Authority as well as all relevant Ministries and Agencies to ensure that we maintain a robust disposition that will deter potential aggressors who may attempt to derail the political, social and economic gains we have chalked so far.
Speaking at a ceremony to present 40 specialised armored vehicles to the army, President Akufo-Addo said the equipment is to help secure the country’s borders, particularly in the north as well as maintain vigilance on all points of entry to the country.
“Government is being working to satisfy the logistical and personal needs of the armed forces and I can say with all confidence that we have achieved modest successes in this endeavour,” he said.
