Director-General of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Ing. May Obiri-Yeboah is admonishing persons in high positions in society to desist from actions that impede the works of the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD).
According to her, for this to be achieved, "the people who matter and indeed, those at the realm of affairs need to cease interference and allow the MTTD to enforce the road traffic regulations."
Speaking during the premiere of JoyNews' documentary titled "CRUSHED" at the Ghana Shippers' Authority, May Obiri-Yeboah indicated that for the menace to be eradicated, Ghana's laws on road safety must be executed without fear or favour.
The Director-General further entreated that the Commission must be supported by all and sundry to ensure that road mortality becomes a thing of the past in years to come.
"All stakeholders should support the NRSC to regulate the road transport sector for our own good. We must chart a path that places value on our lives as road users above all considerations. More importantly, we must dedicate ourselves to investing more in road safety," she stated.
According to a 2018 World Bank study, countries that fail to invest massively in road safety could miss out between 7 to 22 per cent of per capita GDP growth over a 24-year period.

Since the beginning of the year, 771 Ghanaians are said to have lost their lives to road accidents by the end of March. Reports reaching JoyNews reveal that lives lost to road accidents exceed that of lives lost to the Covid-19 pandemic.
