The National Chief Imam Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu has charged officers leading the investigations of the gruesome killing of a ten year old at Kasoa to attach a sense of urgency to their work and expeditiously bring closure and finality to the incident.
Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu has also reminded the Ghanaian people about the need to embark upon a programme of social and cultural re-orientation and re-awakening in order to bring back the country's collective dignity.
In a statement issued through his Spokesperson Sheikh Aremeyao Shaibu, the National Chief Imam described the killing of Ishmael Mensah Abdulai as an unfortunate incident that "will go down on record as one of the most unfortunate occurrences on our recent history".
In the spirit of sympathy and empathy to the parents, immediate family and the neighborhood within which the killing took place, the National Chief Imam expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the parents and immediate family.
"Indeed the memories left behind and the anguish evoked can only be assuaged by the belief and consolation that Ishmael Mensah Abdulai, their son is listed among martyrs who are living and rejoicing in the blissful and peaceful presence of the Almighty Allah," he said in the statement.
There have been public outrage and condemnations after reports that two tenagers have killed a 10-year-old for money rituals.
Beyond the outrage, the National Chief Imam made a strong call on the law enforcement agencies to "expedite investigations and subject all accomplices to the heinous crime to the full rigors of the law without fear or favor".
He also called on what he describes as the custodians of cultural values, religion and moral consciousness to proactively take steps to address the "speedy erosion of our values and spirit of communitarianism which have held our societies together since time immemorial".
He described as worrying, how material wealth is corrupting a number of the youth to the extent that they are willing and are actually killing close associates just for that.
Sheik Usman Nuhu Sharubutu also called on the general population to let the killing of the ten-year old inspire the sense of responsibility and vigilance at all levels and in all communities.
He believes, these steps and others taken as part of the social, cultural and moral re-orientation may help curb the rising trend of wicked, evil and callous tendencies being witnessed in recent times.
