Nana Afena Osei II, Chief of Traa, home of the ancient, famous, and powerful “Buorkyerewa deity” in Techiman, has called on his fellow religious leaders, Government, Parents, and other stakeholders, to come on board to help flash out fake prophets, mallams, traditional priest and priestesses, and online money doublers who have taken over the media landscape, to save the future of Ghana.

He attributed the recent rise in youth indiscipline and the get rich quickly to media content and peer pressure.

The chief said this catalyst drives the youth into taking human lives, alcoholism, and drug abuse.

Nana Afena Osei II spoke with Asta FM's Nana Kwadwo Adu on the sidelines of a meeting with Parents, Teachers, and Youths of Traa where health professionals were brought in to educate on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

"A building can only be strong with a solid foundation, and as such, we shall continue to fight things that threaten the future of our children. We can only protect and guide them at their young age against scamming, drug abuse, alcoholism, quick money, and other social vises", the chief said.

"I, therefore, urge all stakeholders, especially the government to take bold steps against some media content that influences the youth negatively, while parents, teachers, religious groups inculcate the spirit of hard work and discipline among the youths".

Nana Afena Osei II also said they take a strong exception to activities of the LGBT+ group and will do everything within their powers to fight against it, especially in Techiman.

The Queen mother of Traa, Nana Amankwaah, advised the youths, especially girls, to take their education seriously and stay away from peer pressure.

"Don't allow the boys and men to deceive you to become pregnant and school dropouts. Focus on your education and become prominent Traa natives".

She also advised parents to take complaints against their children seriously and employ means of dealing with them rather than turning a blind eye to them.

The Health Promotion Officer at the Techiman Municipal Health Directorate, Madam Patricia Akua Faah, reiterated their preparedness to collaborate with the Chiefs and all stakeholders to educate the youths against drugs and alcoholism.

She said the youth have been advised on the effects of abusing drugs and how to work towards achieving a good healthy life.

Covid-19 remains a threat, and she reminded all to continue adhering to the safety protocols.
