A founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Pianim, says the Party's victory in the next general elections is dependent on the performance of the Food and Agriculture Minister.

The statesman is of the view that Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie will break the two-term streak in Ghana's political governance if he is able to effectively deliver on his mandate.

"This man is responsible for one and two of the four pillars that will make sure that the party that his father fought so hard to help us establish that this party will break the jinx of the two terms."

Kwame Pianim further urged the Minister to see to the execution of the one-district-one-factory initiative and other developmental projects which was promised to Ghanaians by the NPP administration.

This he says will win the hearts of the citizenry and will gain more vote for the NPP in the next polls.

"The eight elections that we’ve had, NDC has won 4 and NPP has also won 4. If the minister of food and Agriculture is able to mechanise and rejuvenate, rehabilitate agriculture to increase output and remove the yield deficit. Everything we produce in Ghana. We only attain 50%  of the attainable world yield, maize, rice, cocoa, whatever name it.

"If he is able to improve and overcome that yield deficit and the one district one factory and gets the output to processes in the district where the young people live and stay. They will be able to have a well-paying job to stay in the district so that they don’t come to the towns Accra, Kumasi to burden the already over tasked social infrastructure. Those are the two pillars. So he is responsible for two and if he is able to do that we will break the two and will," he emphasised.

He made this prediction at the Ghana School of Law’s ‘Re-Akoto Memorial Lectures’ at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Wednesday.

The event seeks to promote research, study and educate the citizenry on the development of Ghana’s constitutional democracy and human and people’s rights.

Again, the statesman added that apart from the effort of the minister, government's success in the fight against corruption and the continuous implementation of free Senior High School would win the NPP more vote.

"The other two pillars are the free senior high school to improve the quality of our manpower for development and the fourth one is to put a stop to bribery and corruption that has been holding us back for all these years."
