The Directorate of Research Innovation and Development at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) will on Friday hold a webinar to explore possible opportunities inherent in Twitter’s decision to establish its African headquarters in Ghana.
The news of Twitter’s choice of Ghana as its Africa headquarters reverberated across the continent – sending Ghanaians in particular into frenzy.
While the news was warmly received, there are pertinent issues surrounding this announcement that have to be brought to the fore if the country is to make the most out of Twitter’s presence.

The seminar which kicks off at 12:00noon, will among other things, explore what Twitter’s presence means for media and communication in Ghana, regionally and internationally.
It will also analyse what the implications are for the public sphere and other emerging issues surrounding twitter, social media, the tech space and the role of digital communication tools and channels in society.
The panelists at the webinar will also assess how twitter can be harnessed as a mechanism for national development and democratic practice.
Addressing the webinar are Dr. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng, Dean, Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (Ghana Communication Technology University), Foster Akugri, Founder and President of Hacklab Foundation; Maximus Ametorgoh, a tech analyst and Dr. Emmanuel Asonye, University of New Mexico, USA.
