Laboratory scientists in two more regions have thrown their weight behind their striking colleagues at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
The industrial action which started in KATH on May 20 is still looming as medical laboratory scientists and allied professionals protest the decision of the management to post two doctors to work in their Unit.
The protest which began as sit-down strike has escalated into a total withdrawal of services an emergency meeting on Wednesday.
"Until management resolves our issues, we are not going to come to work," President of KATH branch of GAMLS, Ernest Badu-Boateng announced the decision to JoyNews.
According to them, professional members of the association who qualify to fill the two available slots have been sacrificed for the Medical Doctors who they argue should not be working in the labs.
This development has taken a toll on the facility as patients requiring laboratory tests have been left stranded.
In the latest twist, their colleagues in the Bono East Region and Upper West Region have decided to add their voice to the calls by embarking on similar industrial actions in solidarity.
The Bono Region branch of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) says they may be forced to join in a full-blown strike if the issues remain unresolved by Thursday, May 27.
Personnel in the regions showed up at work on clad in red head and arm bands indicating their dismay about the situation at KATH.
The regional GAMLS President, Anass Sabit told JoyNews that "Tomorrow we are going to see the outcome. If the law is not enforced, we are going to join them and embark on the strike tomorrow."
In the Upper West Region, the GAMLS has alerted it members to be on standby for 'further action' if nothing is done about the impasse by close of May 26, 2021.
"We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at KATH and if by close of day 26th May, 2021 there is no resolution, we call on our members at (Ghana Health Service, Faith Base, CHAG) to follow the laydown road map until future notice from the Regional Executive Council." the group in a May 24 statement.
