Sustainable Development Goals 17 which talks about partnership for development and economic growth received the highest budgetary allocations from the government for the 2020 fiscal year.
This is according to the SDGs 2020 report launched by the Ministry of Finance.
The report indicates that the government spent about GH35 million on Agenda 17 whilst Goal 5 which talks about gender equality received the least expenditure.
Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern and Eastern regions were among the highest to receive funding for the SDGs for the years 2019 and 2020.
According to the report, Agenda 17 which is partnership for growth got the highest funding of about GH35 million for the year 2020, due to the government's priority on the sectors.
Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta in a virtual statement to launch the report reiterated the government's commitment to partner with the private sector to ensure a successful implementation of the goals.
“Since the baseline report was launched, the country has been able to help track spending in the SDGs”.
“Government will continue to collaborate with development partners, private sector and all stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the SDG” he noted.
Head of Budget Technical Assistance at the Ministry of Finance, Nana Yaw Minta told Joy Business that the gap in spending between Agenda 17 and the others is in line with the government’s initiatives for the years.
The United Nation’s Development Programme which is a contributing agency to the report believes that such initiatives will help the country track its development on the developmental goals.
In September 2015, countries adopted a set of SDGs to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
