Deputy Minority Spokesperson on Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo has called on his colleagues on Parliament’s Appointments Committee to reject President Akufo-Addo’s nominee, Charles Adu-Boahen as a Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.
According to him, Mr Adu-Boahene’s private firms Black Stars Advisory, Data Bank and other advisory firms have made GH₵856 million in fees on Ghana's loans since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office in 2017.
At a press briefing ahead of the vetting of the Minister Designate, the Bolgatanga Central MP stated that the conflict of interest makes him unfit for the role.
“Parliament has the power not to approve Charles Adu-Boahen. I hold the view that Mr Adu-Boahen by this conduct has demonstrated lack of capacity and fiduciary the responsibility to lead the Finance of our country,” he told the media.
Mr Adongo further stated that President Akufo-Addo introduced the Minister of State at Finance Ministry in his second term in office for a reason.
According to him, the incumbent Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta is unwell, as such, the President has strategically created a space for Mr Adu-Boahen who will support the sector minister and subsequently become the de-facto finance minister after a period.
Stressing that Mr Adu-Boahene is unfit for the role, he quizzed, “So when he becomes the Minister of State and Ken relinquishes his responsibility to him, can you tell the next move and how we are going to suffer it?”
“So I am calling on my colleagues, first on the Appointments Committee and the plenary of they so recommend to us, to reject Charles Adu-Boahene in entirety because he is a very big danger to the Finances of the country by this very conduct,” he stated.
