The Abossey Okai Spare Dealers Association has dispelled information circulating on some mainstream media that government wants to eject them from their current location.
In May 2021, the Greater Accra Region Minister, Henry Quartey announced plans to relocate traders at the Kokompe and Abossey Okai spare parts markets in Accra.
It was the hope of the Minister that a spare parts village will be constructed for the purpose of decongesting their current trading hubs and also create more job opportunities.
This news was, however, misconstrued in some media outlets that the spare dealers were being sacked from their current location.
But reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Association noted that it had requested for a relocation when it engaged with President Akufo-Addo in November 2020.
According to the spare part dealers, their current location is overcrowded causing traffic and making it unconducive for business because their customers try to avoid the location.
The Association also indicated that because the place is not well secured, unscrupulous people go around various workshops within the city and pick discarded parts, bring them to Abossey Okai, polish them and re-sell to unsuspecting customers.”
“It is against the aforementioned that we want the general public to understand that it is the association that is calling for the relocation and not to create any impression that it is the Hon Minister that is ejecting us,” he stressed.
