The Accra Metropolitan Health Inspectors, have closed down a public toilet and issued a warning to another public toilet operator at Avenor in the Okaikoi South Metro of the Greater Accra Region.
The closure of the facility, Wednesday, is due to its current poor state, which can spark off an epidemic. The exercise is part of the JoyNews CleanGhana Campaign.
According to Madam Florence S. Kuukyi, Director of Accra Metro Public Health Department, the operator of the toilet, Nii Armah, will be prosecuted. The toilet will remain closed until it is rehabilitated or a new one has been built.
Some residents of the community said they can no longer stand the stench from the toilet. The women among them also complained that the heat from the toilet exposes them to infections.
The Health Inspectors also cautioned owner of a slaughter slab, for operating the facility under unhygienic conditions.
A stern warning was also issued to a cattle seller, close to the Neoplan Station, around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
They were given few days to clean the facility to ensure that meat sold from there is wholesome.
The team saw some heaps of plastic waste around kiosks, occupied by some young ladies, suspected to be foreigners in their early twenties. The young women were made to clean the place although they denied being responsible for the mess.
