Ghanaian songstress Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, known in the entertainment circle as Mzbel has said that she believes in giving back to society and projecting young talents.
The musician revealed that she has a couple of businesses one of which is a record label called Belgam records.
She told JoyNews’ that; “I am a musician and felt like at this point in my life, I need to help others. I have been doing it since but never made it official so people took advantage of it and people took me for granted and it ends up in bad."
"But I set up the record label just to help upcoming artiste, not necessarily to make money,” she told Beverly Broohm.
She added that “the main thing I will start touring on is Beljam records, I have given much time to other businesses and it’s doing well, the record label is young we haven’t done much promo for it, but we have been nominated for two awards and I am grateful.”
Recounting her experience with some artistes in the past, the ‘16 years’ crooner said “some artiste came to mess up the way and made the water muddy but regardless”, she will still help.
Commenting on the recent outburst by some entertainment industry players against the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO).
“Back then you’re being given GHS60 and they will sign you a check and you would have to try all the ways, and in the end you spend more than what you get," she lamented.
Mzbel, however, admits that though not as good as expected, GHAMRO is better than it was in the past regarding the execution of its objectives.
“Now it’s MOMO so you don’t have to go through the stress but still the money doesn’t make sense”, she added.
“I don’t remember the last time I received any money. All I get are messages that we are having meetings at Kumasi etc and they expect you to buy fuel and drive all that way to Kumasi without getting anything. Very annoying."
“We need a database to monitor the number of times our music is played”, she demanded.
She acknowledged Rex Omar for his efforts to ameliorate the system which she believes will be beneficial to artistes in future.
