As part of the International Widow’s Day celebration, a former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection under the John Mahama administration, Rachael Nana Adwoa Appoh donated some items including yards of cloths, farming inputs etc. to widows in the Gomoa Asebu community.
The items were donated Wednesday, June 23, 2021 to over 700 widows.
She said the donation was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of many widows on such a special occasion.
“We did not only cater for widows, but we also screened and donated items to widowers, the aged, elderly women in agriculture and the physically challenged,” she said.
The donation was accompanied by a health screening exercise aimed at detecting diseases such as typhoid, malaria, high blood pressure, cancer, among others.

Over GHC25,000 was spent on the event which was powered by the Obaasima Foundation.
“The 'Obaasima Foundation' did this in furtherance of the core objective of supporting International Widows day, which is to shed a bright light on the plight of widows across the world, give attention to their voices and experiences and also get them the critical support they need,” she said.
She further stated that the foundation was established in 2010 and has since been championing and advocating women empowerment, girl-child education, and widows’ rights.
