Road traffic accidents have been on the rise. The statistics are staggering. Children have not been spared in the road carnage.

Latest data from the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, indicates that as many as 256 people died from road crashes in July, 2021 alone.

It brings to 1,706, the number of people who have been killed through road accidents since the beginning of this year.

Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng goes on the beat to find out how child-accident victims are coping with the incapacitation that they have suffered. It is all captured in 'Crushed Young', the latest documentary.

The documentary features 13-year-old Moses, who has already undergone eight surgeries and has two more to undergo, following a road crash.

That's not all. There is another child who at age six, was crashed after he was driven from school by a teacher to go home and return with his feeding fee of GH¢3.

'Crushed Young', is Joy News' contribution to efforts at addressing the increasing number of road accidents in the country.

The documentary was premiered at the Kumasi City Hall, earlier today.

Speaking at the event, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, stated that the statistics are growing in terms of the number of young people who have passed away in road accidents.

"If you take 2019, through road accidents 33 children passed on to glory. Unfortunately, in 2020 it increased from 33 to 40 and worse, because the year has not ended, in 2021 as at the end of July, it has reached 60. So, we can all imagine the dangers associated with road accidents and the effects on our children and families."

He, thus, urged the media to try as much as possible to follow in the footsteps of Seth Kwame Boateng and unearth some of Ghana's problems through thorough documentaries and reports.
