Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, has stated the university is expecting its graduates to create jobs for themselves through their tailor-made employable training programmes.
He said UENR is continually finding advanced ways to churn out employment-creating graduates who are ready to help Ghana solve the massive graduate unemployment problem.
Professor Asare-Bediako spoke in an interview on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the first Annual Students Employability Camp programme organised by the university to equip students with employable skills for the job market.
The Centre for Students Employability Skills Development at the university's main campus at Sunyani in the Bono Region will equip students in interview grooming, critical thinking, digital skills, emotional intelligence, career mentorship and curriculum vitae writing.
According to Prof. Asare-Bediako, the programme has been introduced to respond to the ever frightening question of what is next after school.
“We look forward to seeing our graduates create jobs to take care of themselves, their families and to extend their hands to those in need, hence this programme to sharpen their skills whilst making them employment-ready," he stressed.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the new Centre for Students Employability Skills Development will distinguish graduates of UENR from other institutions in the job markets.
He further said the skills enhancement programme would become compulsory for all the students from the next academic year.

“We have realised that most fresh graduates lacked the necessary employment skills.
That is why they usually lament inadequate jobs, so we are here to fix the challenge through this centre," a Junior Assistant Registrar of the centre, David Sakyi Yirenkyi, added.
The maiden 3-day Students Employability Camp programme was themed “Creating an Ecosystem of Employable Youth for Ghana’s Sustainable Development”.
