The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, has denied assertions that government has not exhibited enough concern for the victims of the destructive Keta tidal waves.

Speaking on The Probe on Sunday, November 14, 2021, he stated that government officials have been on the grounds since the day of the disaster, ensuring that the livelihoods of the people are restored.

He noted for instance that NADMO officials were immediately dispatched to the community to assess the situation on Sunday when the incident happened.

He further stated that on Tuesday, the first consignment of relief items was sent to the ground by NADMO.

"It's not true that we haven't shown enough concern. This happened on Sunday dawn and by the same Sunday the Regional Director of NADMO was sent to the area with the team; the Municipal NADMO Coordinator and zonal NADMO officials, and others were all on the ground to try and collaborate with state institutions to come and support.

"Also on Tuesday, NADMO brought some items to the ground. The first consignment of relief items was brought to the ground," he added.

It would be recalled that government has been criticised to the effect that it has been unsympathetic to the plights of the victims.

Former President John Mahama, interacting with the victims when he visited to deliver some relief items to them, called on the government to be more compassionate and provide more forms of relief to the affected people.

He stated that “even if you cannot provide them with anything, just a visit to show that you care about them is important.”

But in a reaction, the Volta Regional Minister dismissed the claims, insisting that government has shown enough concern.

"A lot of effort has gone into this and it will be unfair to say that government officials have been unconcerned about the situation," he said.
