Teachers and pupils of Kejebril basic schools in the Ahanata West Municipality of the Western Region have expressed gratitude to Yinson Ghana for renovating a 4-unit classroom block for the school.

The school had become a death trap for more than a decade.

The old building, which was built in 1986 during the introduction of pre-technical and vocational skills during the Rawlings regime never saw any renovation even after it was converted into a basic school.

The dilapidated building was a threat to the safety of the pupils, teaching and some residents.

Teaching and learning were halted any time it rained and was greatly obstructing during the peak of the rainy season.

Pupils of class five and six who were badly affected had to be combined in one class numbering about 90 pupils making teaching and learning ineffective, headmistress of the school Madam Sarah Danso-Dick told the media.

“Also, in some of the class, they have to be shifting during the hot afternoon”.

Commissioning the project Yinson Ghana CSR coordinator Edward Mensah said, the project which will replace the life-threatening structure, was used as classrooms for the past decade.

He said providing an enabling environment in schools would eventually culminate into improved performance among the school pupils.

Mr Mensah explained the renovation of the 4-unit classroom block with supervision from the Kejebril community leaders led by Nana Anghamatsea (VI) Chief of Kejebril, took two months to complete.

Madam Danso-Dick, lauded Yinson Ghana for the intervention, saying "the renovation of the new classroom block and provision of library would enhance teaching and learning in the school".

“Yinson Ghana has been our bedrock in terms of corporate social responsibility, I want to thank them for being with us to enhance effective teaching and learning and uplift the name of Kejebril schools and education”.

Assembly member for Kejebril Timoty Ampean urged the school authorities to properly maintain the facility to benefit generations yet unborn.

He urged parents to regularly monitor their children to ensure an improvement in their academic performance.

He emphasized the importance of education in poverty reduction and the general empowerment of an individual.

LIBRARY FOR THE COMMUNITY

Yinson Ghana has collaborated with the Ghana Library Authority to provide a library for its host communities schools in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region school.

The library, which is located near Yinson’s operations base in the Western Region, will serve around 2,000 students in Kejebril and surrounding communities.

The Ghana Library authority which has the mandate to run libraries in the country will be responsible for the management of the library.

The renovated classroom block and library was inaugurated in a ceremony on 17 November 2021.

To encourage the students in the community to use the library, Yinson will sponsor the first 100 student registrations. Yinson also aims to hold quarterly literacy programmes and reading competitions, in which Yinson plans to sponsor prizes for the winners.

Yinson Ghana CSR coordinator Edward Mensah said, “In line with Yinson’s commitment to quality education, we hope this library and ongoing literacy programmes will encourage reading in the community.

Yinson will continue to invest in the library by continually developing new programmes towards ensuring the community makes full use of the library’s facilities.
